Common Questions

Is double glazing worth it in Melbourne?
Melbourne's climate swings between genuine summer heat and cold winter nights, and glass is where a house gains and loses most of its heat. The bigger your windows and doors, the more difference double glazing makes.
What does thermally broken mean?
Aluminium conducts heat readily, so even with double glazed glass, a standard aluminium frame carries heat straight through. A thermally broken frame puts an insulating barrier between the inside and outside sections of the frame, so the whole window performs rather than just the glass.
Will double glazing reduce noise?
Yes, noticeably, particularly for traffic noise. If noise is the main reason you're upgrading, tell us — the glass specification for acoustic performance is different from the one for thermal performance.
Does double glazing stop condensation?
It substantially reduces it. Condensation forms when warm indoor air meets cold glass, and the inner pane of a double glazed unit stays much closer to room temperature.
Can I retrofit double glazing to existing windows?
In most cases the whole window is replaced rather than just the glass, because the frame and sash need to carry the extra weight and depth of a double glazed unit. We'll assess what's possible when we measure.
How long will it take?
